I Struggled With My Weight for Years — Here’s What Finally Changed (And What You Should Know If You’re on GLP-1s)

For most of my life, my weight felt like a constant battle. I worked with personal trainers, tried different routines, and genuinely wanted to feel healthier but nutrition was always the hardest part for me. I was a stress eater, I loved sweets, and even when I started strong, old habits would eventually creep back in. It wasn’t a lack of effort , it was feeling stuck in a cycle that I didn’t know how to break.
The moment that truly changed everything for me was seeing my wedding photos. It wasn’t just about appearance. It was a deeper realization about my health and where I was headed long term.
At that time, I was dealing with high blood pressure, elevated liver enzymes, and a fatty liver diagnosis. As a nurse, I knew what those numbers meant and I knew I needed to make changes not just for how I looked, but for my future.
With the help of GLP-1 medications, along with lifestyle changes focused on hydration, nutrition, and movement, I’ve now lost over 70 pounds. Today, I no longer need blood pressure medication, and my liver enzymes are back within a normal range.
This journey is exactly why I’m so passionate about helping others through Altitude Wellness IV. GLP-1 medications can be powerful tools, but they work best when paired with sustainable habits that support your body every day.

Why Hydration Matters So Much on GLP-1 Medications
GLP-1 medications slow digestion and reduce appetite, which helps with weight loss, but it can also mean people unintentionally drink less water. Dehydration is one of the most common reasons people feel tired, nauseated, or sluggish during their journey.
Some signs you may need more hydration include:
Fatigue or low energy
Headaches
Dizziness
Constipation
Muscle cramps
Dry skin
Living in Colorado’s altitude can increase fluid loss even more, making hydration even more important.
During my own journey, one of the biggest changes that helped me feel better was adding electrolytes to my water. It made it easier to stay hydrated, especially on days when my appetite was low.
What to Eat While on GLP-1s (Especially When You’re Not Very Hungry)
Because portions get smaller, every bite should support your energy and overall health. Instead of focusing on eating less, focus on eating smarter.
Protein First
Protein helps preserve muscle, keeps you full longer, and supports metabolism.
One of my personal go-to snacks was beef jerky; simple, convenient, and easy to grab during long shifts without feeling heavy.
Other protein ideas:
Eggs or egg whites
Chicken or turkey
Cottage cheese or Greek yogurt
Protein shakes
Fish like salmon or tuna
Add Healthy Fats for Balance
Healthy fats help stabilize blood sugar and keep energy levels steady.
Try:
Avocado
Nuts and seeds
Olive oil
Nut butters
Gentle, Easy-to-Digest Carbs
Many people feel better sticking to simple, balanced meals while on GLP-1s.
Examples include:
Rice or quinoa
Oatmeal
Whole-grain toast
Fresh fruit
Fiber — Slowly and Consistently
Fiber supports digestion, but adding too much too quickly can cause discomfort.
Good options:
Leafy greens
Berries
Roasted vegetables
Chia seeds
Movement Matters — Even a 30-Minute Walk Counts
One of the biggest mindset shifts for me was realizing this isn’t a quick fix — it’s a lifestyle change.

Exercise doesn’t have to be extreme to be effective. Even a 30-minute walk each day can:
Support metabolism
Improve mood and energy
Help maintain muscle mass
Enhance long-term weight management
Consistency matters more than intensity. Small daily habits build real, lasting progress.
Habits That Made the Biggest Difference for Me
From both a personal and clinical perspective, these were the habits that truly helped me stay consistent:
Focus on protein-first meals
Add electrolytes to your water
Choose easy, high-protein snacks like beef jerky
Move your body daily, even if it’s just walking
Stay ahead of hydration instead of waiting until you feel thirsty
When hydration, nutrition, and movement work together, many people experience fewer side effects like nausea, fatigue, or constipation.
